OR you can tally up the cost of your keeping the horse and give that price to the old owner as a boarding bill, say you are keeping the horse as collateral for the cost of keeping it in your care and if they want it back, they can pay the bill or allow you to sell the horse, because you were under the impression that is was now YOUR horse. Worst case, get a lawyer and do so before they take the horse.
